Part4 - RDS Farm - Enable User Profile Disks

In RDSFarm01 collection, I have only one server. Therefore I don't have to enable User Profile Disks. However, RDSFarm02 collection has multiple session host servers and storing user profile on the local disks of the server will not be a feasible way to follow. I will enable User Profile Disks, and store the user profiles on a shared location.

Create a shared folder on a server on which you want to keep the user profiles.

Session Host Servers has to have Full Control permission on this shared folder.

The RDP User group has to be added to the Local Administrators group on the server where shared folder resides.

Let's enable the User Profile Disk on the Colection RDSFarm02

Select Farm Collection> Properties> Tasks> Edit Properties

Select User Profile Disks section, Tick the Enable checkbox> Enter the UNC path for the shared folder> Click OK.

Test Phase:

Users in RDPUsersGroup1 can only connect to RDSFarm01 and Users in RDPUsersGroup2 can connect only to RDSFarm02. If they try to connect, they will get the error:
“The connection was denied because the user account is not authorized for remote login.” as seen below.

The users should use DNS addresses.

By selecting the collection, you can see the active connections under the Connections section. Note that, RDSFarm01 collection has only 1 server.

User Profile Disk is NOT enabled on RDSFarm01 and  Profiles are stored on the local disk on Session Host server.

RDSFarm02 collection 2 host session servers and connections are being load balanced between these servers.

These are the profiles in shared folder.

When users log on to session host, their vhd files are mounted as a disk

In Part4 - I will talk about a warning message that I saw on Session Host servers saying that "There are no RD Connection Broker servers in the server pool".
