33- OSD Part7 - Deployment Workbench - Creating MDT Toolkit, MDT Settings

In the previous articles, we configured PXE point, install WADK 10 and MDT 2013 Update 1. It is now time to create MDT environment with Deployment Eorkbench, MDT Toolkit, MDT Settings.

First lets create a new Deployment Share. Open up Deployment workbench on your sccm server. I prefer to keep my mdt files under \\sccmserver\Sources\OSResources\MDT folder.

In deployment workbench, right click operating systems folder and create Windows10 and v1803 folders.

Right click on v1803 folder and import Windows10 1803 as "Full set of source files"

It will ask you the location of source files . Mount your Windows 10 1803 iso image and show the path for CD drive and complete the rest of the wizard.

And we imported v1803.

Add Windows Image to SCCM:

Now lets import the Windows 10 v1803 into SCCM that we just added into deployment Workbench.

Navigate to Software Library > Operating Systems > Operating System Images. Right click and choose Add Operating System Image.

 Specify the path for install.wim

\\sccmserver\sources\OSResources\MDT\DeploymentShare\Operating Systems\Windows 10 Education x64\sources\install.wim

Distribute the image to DPs, right click on the newly added image and  select Distribute Content and complete the Distribute Content wizard.

Creating  MDT Toolkit and MDT Settings Components:

We will use MDT Task Sequence wizard to create MDT Toolkit and MDT Settings packages. Navigate to Software Library > Operating Systems > Task Sequences > right click and choose Create MDT Task Sequence.

Choose Client Task Sequence as the template

Give  a name the task sequence

Choose "This task sequence will never be used to capture an image"

We already created boot image so just specify it.

Choose "Create a new Microsoft Deployment Toolkit Files package"

Enter MDT details

Specify the previously created OS image.

In Deployment Method section, choose "Zero Touch Installation" not to let your users to interact with the installation , UDI installation on the other hand gives users to choose installation options.

In Client Package section, choose "Specify an existing ConfigMgr client package" and select the latest client package.

In USMT Package section, select the User State Migration Tool for Windows 10 package.

In Settings Package Section, choose Create a new packages option. Then enter the Details

Click Finish on confirmation section.

Now we need to distribute both MDT packages to DPs.

Navigate to Software Library > Operating Systems > Boot images and select the MDT boot image .

Enter its Properties, and select the Data Source tab. Make sure you enable the option "Deploy this boot image from a PXE enabled distribution point".

Right click the boot images and distrubute them to DPs

Navigate to Software Library > Operating Systems > Task Sequences > right click Windows 10 Deployment TS and Deploy it to Win10Deployment collection.

make sure it is set to Available and deployed to Only media and PXE

Get the MAC of your PC and import it to the Win10Deployment collection

Now you can PXE boot your computer and install Win10
